150 years of the Blaydon Races song

Blaydon Races 150 Audience

The "House Full" signs went up at approximately 7.55pm and it was standing room only for the celebration of 150 years of the "National Anthem" presented by Bennie Graham, Johnny Handel and Vic Gammon.

People had travelled from far and wide for this much anticipated event and we even had the great, great Grandson of Coffee Johnny to witness the proceedings.

Accompanied by a slide show depicting the scenes of the period and including rare footage from the Centenary celebrations of 1962, they gave us an eclectic mix of songs from the likes of Bobby Nunn, Joe Wilson, Ned Corvan and of course, Geordie Ridley.

A truly memorable night delivered and received in true Geordie style and rounded off with full audience participation in a rousing finale of the Blaydon Races.

And to to top it all the special prizes in the raffle were two enormous black puddings.
