Johnny Handle Vic Gammon

Not just one, but two tynefolk regulars have been honoured with The Gold Medal of the English Folk Song and Dance Society

The Gold Badge of the English Folk Dance and Song Society is awarded for unique or outstanding contributions to folk music, dance or song.

It is the highest honour that the Society bestows.

Over the last two weeks Vic Gammon and Johnny Handle have had their names added to a list of folk luminaries that includes;

  • Lady Mary Trevelyan
  • Harry Cox
  • A L Lloyd
  • Bob Copper
  • Bob Cann
  • Reg Hall
  • Roy Judge

  • Louisa Killen
  • Ray Fisher
  • Alistair Anderson

To mark the occasion Vic Gammon held a celebration concert at St Mary's Church, next to the Sage, Gateshead. The citation was given by Malcolm Taylor the Director of the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library in London.

And Johnny appeared at the Sage Gateshead along with Chris Hendry, in the first of this season's One Night in Gateshead. The citation was given by Peter Wood.
