A Taste of Burns
It was not a Burns Night Supper, although we did have the Neeps and Haggis, it was just a Taste of Burns.
The songs and poetry of Robbie Burns were in evidence but were interspersed with traditional songs throughout the evening. It was wonderful that tynefolk members had taken the trouble to unearth such a range of Burns songs and poems for the occasion.
The highlight of the event was the entrance of and address to the Haggis given by Gordon Inkster. Delivered with feeling, the Chieftain o' the Puddin' Race had his sonsie face and reeking entrails well and truly trenched (I wish I knew what all this meant...Ed) before being served up at the interval.
Our participating guests, Gordon and Sheila, Simon and Rosie, were more than impressed having experienced many a Burns evening but without the accompanying singing.
Thanks must go to all of them for making the long journey, but particularly Gordon, who made time in a busy schedule of Burns events to deliver the address at tynefolk.
And to cap it all, Mary Hollins invented a new quiz game called "Tell me the Tartan". The rules to which are still being finalised!!
